How To Fit A Pool Liner
Easy Steps To Install A Pool Liner
1.Double check the shell bottom, and be sure to remove all stones, twigs, or sharp objects which might damage the liner. Always work without shoes whilst in the shell bottom. Any sharp objects remaining in the shell could cause damage to the liner once installed. Clean out the linerlock and remove any debris.
2.For non porous shells such as concrete, standing water must be removed from the bottom prior to installation of liner, or the liner will float on the water and not properly fit the shell.
3.For ease of installation and the best finished appearance, liners should be installed in warm weather. In temperatures below 60F, the vinyl will be stiff and hard to handle. If possible it is best to warm the vinyl for at least 48 hours beforehand.
4. Make sure that any gaskets that will be underneath the liner are glued into place securely, using silicone or a pvc glue. It is essential that these areas are sealed properly.
5. The pool surround must be swept clean of all debris before taking the liner out of the carton.
6. The liners are usually clearly marked so that it is easy to identify which end is which, and are folded so that unpacking and folding is simple.
7. Start with the folded liner in the centre of the pool surround at the shallow end. The liner needs to be roughly placed in position by two people very carefully walking it into place, by each holding one corner of the deep end.
8. Once the liner is roughly in place, the centre of each length and width should be clipped in to the linerlock.
9. Starting from the pieces which are already clipped in to the linerlock, clip the remainder in working outwards from the centre, finishing in each corner.
10. Position the vinyl so that the bottom fits snugly into the corners. As you work, try to push and smooth out any wrinkles.
11. Now use an industrial vaccum to suck the liner completely against the shall surfaces, and remover any last wrinkles. To do this you need to unclip about six inches of the beading from the linerlock, insert the suction end of the cleaner and seal any gap with tape to make it airtight. Turn on the vacuum and as the vinyl is sucked back against the shell walls, try to smooth out any remaining wrinkles. It may be necessary to occasionally turn off the vacuum in order to slightly re position the liner to remove any last wrinkles or folds.
12. Start filling with water once you are satisfied that the liner is fitted correctly and without any wrinkles. At this stage do not turn off the vacuum.
13. After about 12 inches of water have been added to the deep end, it is necessary to install the main drain face-plate. Find the screwholes for the faceplate by touch. Once you know where they are, puncture some holes for the screws, fit the gasket and faceplate. Cut away the vinyl covering the main drain, then fit the main drain cover.
14. As the pool continues to fill, smooth out any remaining wrinkles. Wrinkles which are allowed to remain will be difficult, if not impossible; to remove once the pressure of the water is sufficient to hold them in place.
15. Once there is about six inches of water in the shallow end the vacuum can be turned off.
16. Continue to fill the pool with water, refitting items such as skimmer faceplates only when the water level is about 3 inches below the bottom of the fitting.
